ORIENTATION

OOOOOHH boy its going to be a long week.
Today I started orientation for law school at Ave Maria School of Law, hereafter known as AMSOL. Let me tell you, I did not like the early 8am start nor the late 5 pm finish. Luckily we had three meals all on the house. We started off the day with MASS, which I did not attend because I was getting my picture taken. I must say about half the students didnt attend mass.
Then we hung around and introduced ourselves to each other. I met a few guys from Toledo, and one of my professors is a BIG BUCKEYE/INDIANS fan. That should be an easy A for me in Civil Procedure.

We then went into the library for the welcoming. We listened to the dean and he introduced all the faculty and staff. Half the faculty got there JDs from Notre Dame, one from UT. He told us a little about our class.
* We are the 6th Class at AMSOL, and the largest 148.
* 70% male, 29%female, 1% undecided.
* 75% catholic, a few protestants, 1 "self proclaimed hedenistic pagan" and 1 Muslim (some guy named Ammar Alo)
* 13% married, I was surprised to see people my age married.
by the way, as a note, 2 weeks ago AMSOL recieved its FULL ACCREDITATION from the Bar Association, in the quickest time possible, 5 years.

Then the founder of our school spoke. Tom Manhagan, former owner of Dominos Pizza. He sold Dominos for $4 Billion to open up a law school. He has so far put $50 Million into the school. Let me say this, listening to a Billionare speak is not much different than listening to a hundredaire speak. He was a very down to earth guy, and I really appreciate what he has done, because if it wasnt for him, I wouldnt be going to AMSOL. Tom is also starting a city in Florida called Ave Maria.

I bought my books, $601.25, YUP thats six hundred one and twenty five cents. but then I learned that some 2Ls are selling used books, so I will prob. return some of these tomorrow.

We had a mock class where we discussed a case that was assigned to us a week ago (BECK V. WATSON) it was about a German immigrant who got beat on by some racists back during world war 2. We were then assigned another case for tomorrow in which we have to decide whether the same judgement can be upheld.

Then it was time for lunch, I had the smoked turkey sandwich.

Then we played foosball in the lounge, I ofcourse was smokin everyone. The lounge is where we hung out, and there is a TV in there.

Then we went back up to the library and one of the deans spoke to us again and some guy from academic affairs and some girl from the externship program. The time was now about 3:45 pm

Then we went out to the courtyard, had some food, talked to a few professors, and drove back home.

I thought the drive would be a lot tougher than it was, but it was ok, 40 mins exactly. I found another 1L from Toledo who is commuting like me and we might car pool.

More to come
