Ave Maria moving to Florida?????????????????????

These are my thoughts on the move.

First off, let me say that no one in my class knew that the school could move before classes started. I heard about the a possible move before I paid my deposit, and I asked the dean about it during orientation.

This school is solid from an education stand point, high quality professors and high quality students.

The pros of the move:
-- Continued funding by the Money Man. I heard that if the school doesn't move, The ave maria foundation will not fund the school and they will have to find alternative funding. Continued funding guarantees bigger scholarships and better students.

-- could be better in the long run.

-- ITS FLORIDA!!!! Awesome weather.

CONS.
IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT!
-- The accreditation that the school received in the fastest time possible maybe reduced back to provisional if the school moves to Florida. Moving the school some 1000 away is considered a "significant change" under ABA accreditation.

-- the school is already established, and their reputation was on the rise (until the Florida move became widespread), now this may hurt the schools rep even more, but look at the bright side, we are in the 4th tier, you can only go UP!!

-- Faculty; the school may lose some of the great, high quality faculty they have in AA.

-- students; some high quality students may not want to move to Florida and live in Ave Maria Town, an all catholic, no contraceptives town. It is also going to have a 60 foot cross (don't know if this is a con, just thought I would throw it in).

-- The Faculty and the Alumni have voted no confidence in the dean. This seems to be tearing the school apart, maybe (read below)

-- ITS FLORIDA!!! Too many hurricanes.

Ok now, it seems like the cons are a lot more than the pros, but, I don't think it is as bad as it sounds. First, from a students prospective, the school is not being torn apart. I have not seen any controversies between students about the move.

What is my gut feeling?
I have no doubt the school will move to Florida, its just a matter of when and how. If they are going to do this, they need to do this with the least damage possible to the school.

In the long run, moving to Florida will probably be a good thing if they can't get funding from somewhere else.

Just my 2 cents.
